Emofra Africa and Ridge Hospital present:
Cancer In Africa: Prevention, Treatment And Cure
Cancer is rapidly emerging as a major public health problem in Africa. The erroneous myth that cancerous diseases are rare in Africa has been nullified by numerous publications on cancers in Africans. From available information, it is now recognized that cancer is a common disease which affects many Africans and is taking a toll on individuals, communities, and resources of African countries.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), by 2020, African states will account for more than a million new cancer cases per year out of a total of 16-million cases worldwide. Africa remains the continent least prepared to cope with the devastating effects of this new pandemic, having only a few cancer care services available.
This conference is timely and necessary to establish why cancer has rapidly spread in Africa and to determine prevention, care and treatment that are applicable for Africans. For a long time, the discussion of cancer has been taboo in African communities, but our hope is that this conference will bring to light important information that will highlight this problem that is facing Africa today.
